new addition

Here is our new addition. A little girl. We are thinking of naming her Alice.

Went to the doctor today. Everything is going great so far. The doctor said that she was happy that I finally gained 4 pounds in a month. I couldn't believe it. I have been so scared that I would gain 60 like I did with Virginia. She also said that I might only gain 25 pounds. My goal is 35, but hey, 25 I will take!
We get to find out what we are having in two weeks! I am anxiously awaiting the 13 days to come.

cloth

I have started to go back to cloth diapers. Virginia doesn't like it too much right now. They definitely feel different to her.
I was just tired of feeling sick every time we filled a trash bag full of dirty diapers. Plus, she needs to start potty training and I figured cloth will make it a bit easier for her. We will see.

My goal with the new baby is to do cloth 95% of the time. The downside to this is that it is so expensive to start out. I didn't start V in cloth until she was about 9 months old.

John has been able to feel the baby kicking. It is amazing to me that he and I can feel it so soon. With V it was 20 weeks to the day when I started feeling her kick and not for another month until John could. I started feeling this one at about 15 weeks and John at about 17. Weird!

So far the weight gain has been good. I gained 60 pounds with V and my goal for this one is 35. I think it is doable, it is just going to be hard work. So far I have only gained 11 pounds and I am at 18 weeks. I don't think that is too bad, considering.

back to the grindstone

We are officially back at work now after being off for 16 days. I think the boys are in for a rude awakening here tonight and the next few nights. As we predicted, they were terrible while we were gone. I don't think it will take them long to conform back to our rules though.
V has been in a terrible mood today. She woke up at 6:30am wide awake. I got her out of bed and we laid on the couch together for awhile while I tried to go back to sleep. She has been fussy ever since. She hasn't even wanted to play with the boys.
It is incredibly cold here today. I got online to check the temp and was astounded to find that it said it was 32 degrees at 8:30am. It hasn't gotten any warmer either. Just a few minutes ago it started to lightly snow on John and I while we were walking back to the house. I am not ready for this kind of weather!
Here are some pics I took of V this morning. I have her all "chiefed" out today (maybe that's why she has been in a foul mood today).

finally finally

We went to MC Sports clearance sale and found two Bears onsies. Of course, we had to get them!

V "helping" Vance play Need for Speed.

Libby, V, Lilly, Gus and Payton having fun on the porch swing

V with her Uncle Goober at the Maple Leaf Parade

V having a tea party at her Oma and Opa's

I now can post more often like I have wanted to! John bought me a MacBook for Christmas 09 and Birthday '10!

We just got back from vacation. We departed on a two day trip back to Missouri. We first spent some time in KC with John's folks and then stayed in Webb City for the duration. The amazing Eden's let us bombard their guest room for the week.
We had a fun filled and packed schedule. We arrived on Friday and had dinner with my family since my Aunt, Uncle and cousins were in town for Maple Leaf. We then attended Maple Leaf where V loved the horses! Unfortunately we were rained out towards the end but V got to see the Clydesdale's and the marching cobras.
Sunday we then went to Mystery and had an amazing lunch with the Karnes and Edens. The rest of the week we were busy but relaxed.

We arrived back in Idaho Monday at 3am. John decided to drive straight through the night. Virginia didn't much care for that idea but we made it and because of that we have had all day to unwind and relax before starting back at it tomorrow morning.

bad,bad,bad

I haven't posted in so long!!
I do have a good excuse though, I am with the boys for 15 hours a day and our Mac crashed. We are hoping to go to Salt Lake in a couple of weeks and pick up a new one.

Well, 4H fair came and went and was the longest week of my life!!! Virginia had fun the first day of it but by Tuesday I had to take her home in the afternoon for a nap. It was nice though, it meant that I got a nap too!

Right now the boys are watching a movie and John is outside getting the fire pit ready to make smores. It has been a pretty nice day. Jason and Jim took the boys to the golf tournament so John and I got the morning off. The boys have been in a tournament for the last two days. They are amazingly good at golf. None of them had played before but they are loving it. The boys (and staff) have had private lessons from pros. It has been very informative and I can't wait to go out to the course and play 9.

Virginia has been growing like crazy. She jabbers constantly. She is getting so tall and her hair is getting pretty thick. I was excited that I had to go and buy de-tangler for her.

I was going to post a ton of pics to here and facebook but the lodge computer won't let me. When we pick up our iMac I will post them.

good news and bad news

The good news is that we bought a Flip camera on clearance and took some funny videos of V with it.
The bad news is that our Mac crashed and the PC here in the lodge dosen't recognize the Flip.
It looks like we might be going camping now after all from Tuesday to Thursday. The boys have to get a lot done on their 4H books before then though. We worked on them for about 2 hours straight today. I am hoping that they will get enough done so that we can go. I was really looking forward to camping.
We have a boy visiting right now. He is a carni kid. That made us laugh so hard when we found out. The really funny thing is that there is a carnival in town too! I wondered if his dad was working it. I am going to vote that he dosen't come back to stay. He is TERRIBLE and we already have our hands full with one bad kids I don't think we can handle two right now.
We have a cherry tree on ranch that is ripe right now. Me and some of the boys picked some cherries off of it. I am hoping to make them a pie for tomorrow.
We had our four days off four days ago. We just came back on at 9am today and I am already ready for our next 9 days. It is not fun to come back to full chaos!

so very tired

V rode her first horse the other day. She did great. She didn't act scared, just like it was natural for her. She loves all the animals here. Everytime we go by the pigs or even go anywhere near their pen she starts to grunt like the pigs. It's cute. She dosen't say 'oink' because our pigs don't say 'oink'.
Today we took the four boys we have left (the other 5 are on home passes right now) and went to the towns july 4th parade. It was pretty nice. There weren't any long pauses like in Maple Leaf so that was nice. After the parade we headed to the park and had a sack lunch. We got back around 1:30 and I took the boys to the arena to ride horses until 4:30. I was asked to ride a horse named Arrowhead because it is a 4H horse and the girl that has been working with him requested that he be riden. So, I obliged and now I know that I will never ride that horse again! I am going back to Sassy! Arrowhead kept trying to run off with me on him and tryed bucking me at one point. He was being a pain!
After the horses we started dinner. The girls went the the rodeo and then to fireworks in a nearby town so we had the ranch to ourselves. So we decided to have a fire pit and cook hobo dinner packs, eat some jello cake and roast marshmallows. It was fun. Of course we had the usual complainers but once they started roasting marshmallows or finding out how good the dinner was, they stopped the complaining. The boys are now watching Drowning Mona and are cracking up!
These past few days have worn me out! I am looking forward to my 4 days off that are coming up on Tuesday.
Oh yeah, I am now a lifeguard. I passed! 6 of us started and only 4 of us finished.
I am hoping to purchase a camera soon so that I can take some pics of V on her horses.

lost forever

It is official, I have lost my camera. I can't believe it! I had taken it to the pool a few days ago to take pics of V's first time swimming in a public pool. I must have either put it under a chair at the pool and forgot it or someone got in my bag when I was helping the boys swim and had taken it. Either way, it is gone with an entire memory card worth of pics that I hadn't transfered over yet. I am VERY VERY VERY upset right now.
So now I am in need of a new camera but they are so expensive that I just don't know what to do at the moment. If I am going to replace mine I want to get a nice one. I have been wanting to get into photography for the last couple of years but my camera didn't let me do much. I guess this is the way I am going to get a better camera now.

Fair is coming up for the kids at the ranch. I now nothing about fair. I just helped Mr. Halquist (the 4H teacher and equine therapist) with 4H for the last 3 hours. I learned a lot! I didn't know that you had to be so specific with all measurements and feeding amounts. The more I learn about fair, the more excited I am to see all of the kids hard work.

Rupert has their July 4th fireworks tonight (it dosen't make much sense to me either). I am trying to decide whether to take the kids or not. The fireworks won't start until it gets dark, around 10pm. The kids have their last full day of summer school tomorrow and we won't be getting home till probably 11:30 and that means they won't be in bed a somewhat settled until midnight. I know that they would have fun but I just don't know if it is worth the hassel. (it also would mean that I would have to be up until midnight and I am not excited about that)

sore body

I was going to post some pics but can't seem to find my camera. I am sure it is around here somewhere.

Yesterday we went on a horse ride in the mountains. I am still amazed at the open access of land here. The state owns most of the land in Idaho so it is free to the public. Back in MO you have to ask to use the river because someone owns it, here you just pick a spot and start fishing. It is grand.
Anyway, we left the ranch around 9:30am and arrived at Sun Valley around 11:30. We then rode horses until 2pm, ate lunch and rode back. I rode a horse named Sassy and she has earned every bit of her name. She has a mind of her own. She kept throwing me into trees, other horses and other riders. She is also a biter. She bit one boy, me and several horses. Sassy did not like to be passed so when another horse would come along she would bite them on the neck. She is sassy, but I like her. We got back to the ranch around 7pm and then it was dinner, showers and lights out. We were exhausted.
I don't know how people ride horses all the time. I am so sore! My whole body hurts and I have lifeguard class again today until Friday.
Virginia stayed with her Aunt Brenda and had fun all day. She got to play with another girl her age named Alexis. They are best friends now.
We have painted our living room and dining room, entrance way and front door. If I can ever find my camera I will take some pics and post them.
Tomorrow is our down day and we have Thursday to Monday off. I can't wait!!!

frisbee golf

Apparently frisbee golf is HUGE here in Idaho. The clinician, Jason, holds some kind of records for it.
Today the girls went on an all day horse ride so it was just us and the boys at the ranch today. Jason decided to take them out of school early and all go to a park and play Frisbee Golf. I didn't know there were certain frisbees for it and that some are for distance, some for curving and so forth. I guess there are huge tournaments for it. What dorks!
The boys had such a great time. Jason told them that if they could beat his score, giving himself an 18 stroke handicap, then he would buy them rootbeer floats. They boys did great, as a collective they had only 9 over par. We had rootbeer floats tonight! We are also watching Edward Scissor Hands right now too. It has been a great and much awaited for night considering the nights we have been having with the boys.
I took some pics but am too lazy right now to get up and go to the house to get the camera. Maybe I will post them tomorrow. I am excited to have the next 4 days off! And then Thursday we get to go on our horse ride!

7:30am-go to lodge and walk to caf to eat breakfast
7:45-make sure the boys do their kitchen chores
8am-go to either pigs or horses with boys
10am-off until 12noon
12-go to lunch
12:15-make sure the boys do their kitchen chores
12:30-off until 3:30
3:30-have kids do LMA (large muscle activities like walking, running, skateboarding, etc)
4:30-either family meeting, life skill (yesterday we taught them how to mop & sweep properly) or health group (we are going to teach them how to composte and eat from the earth)
6:00-dinner time
6:15-make sure the boys do their kitchen chores
6:30-8:30-free time or homework time or table time (if they say a bad word)
9:00-quite time, in their own rooms
9:30-lights out

Our days are pretty packed. Plus we have to try to throw in some Virginia time in there too.

Today was our down day so we had from after breakfast until 3:30 off. We went to Twin (kind of like Joplin) and went to eat at an Italian resturant and then to Lowes, Old Navy and Target. I bought some boy shorts at Old Navy because all of their guy clothing was 50% off for Fathers Day.

I am doing Life Guard training right now. I passed my first swim test and then had class tonight. It is quite a process! We take our test July 2nd.

Boise

Boise went great! Virginia was amazing!
We went to the park and had lunch and waited on the Hays Shelter group to meet us there. The kids and staff (myself not included because I had to watch V) played softball and it looked like they had a great time. After that we went to Hays where they showed us around the facility and made us dinner. Hays is beautiful! It is a new building that has a very modern look. It is on the website if anyone is interested in looking at it. They cooked us an amazing meal of hotdogs, hamburgers, brats, mac & cheese, fruit salad, potato salad, brownies and much more. It was nice to meet the staff their as well. Hays is a short term facility for kids in crisis. The crisis could be that they are run aways's, been abused, been in trouble with the courts or any number of reasons. Because of this they are very very strict, but it is good.
I drove one of the vans back with V and two girls. It was a great ride. I got to hear their life stories and ask them questions and they got to ask me questions. I am thankful that I had that opportunity to get to know them. I was afraid I just wouldn't be able to get to know the girls for some time since the boys take up so much of my time.
Today is church day which is bitter sweet. I miss my Mystery family but am excited to add to it with the church family here. I was sad to hear that ususally only 2 boys go to church. Hopefully that will change.

booty patrol

Well it is day 5 of V having diarhea. It has not been fun. It is only 1pm and she is already on her third pair of pants. Her poor little booty has been so red and sore. She has been acting fine, thankfully. You wouldn't tell just by looking at her that she is sick.
Here is the scoop on the job. When we took the job we were told that our first day would be Monday June 8th. We found out yesterday that our first day is TODAY! Talk about poor communication! But everything is okay. Today has been odd. We offically started at 9. We were suppose to go to the office to start paperwork but then found out that one of us (John) was suppose to go help the boys with the pigs. Then we were suppose to meet with one of the relief staff at lunch and she was to "show us the ropes." She wasn't there! She had to take her husband to the dr's and I guess she is still there. All I know is that the boys get out of school at 2:30 and I am hoping she is back by then because I don't know what I am suppose to be doing!
John and I started painting the place today. We are painting the family room and the living room what was suppose to be a brown color but ended up being more green. It is not what I picked out but I like it! We are going to paint an accent wall a dark orange but we cannot agree on which wall the accent should be. We have a really nice brand new couch that we get to use. It was one that the Today show donated as well as a bookshelf (also from the Today show) and a table, an outside bench and possibly some end tables. Everything is slowly coming together. We still don't have groceries yet though. We are going to have to do that on one of our down days which I think is Monday or Tuesday.
V has been transitioning well. She has been sleeping a lot! (of course except right now when she is suppose to be napping!). I think the altitude has been making her sleepy as well has probably being a factor to her diarhea. All of the kids love her. Yesterday the girls took her and played with her in the grass where they were sitting it was cute to see her sitting in their circle like she was one of them.
I posted some pictures on facebook and am hoping to post some of our place pre-painted. We will see, it is going to be a crazy evening!

trying to sing in the rain

V and I are off to Idaho today. She has been really great with all of the changes and stress. Although, she has been waking up at 6:30 in the morning which in Idaho is not going to fly considering it will be 5:30 am there.
Yesterday she was playing in the water in her Oma & Opa's backyard. Of course she was naked and had a blast!!! It was fun to watch.
V has really misssed your dada. She keeps calling for him. I told her this morning that she was going to see him tonight and she screamed. I can't say that she knew what I was saying but it was a funny response.
I really don't like just sitting here knowing that if I were home i would be getting ready for Mom's Morning. I really miss all of them already! It is going to be extra hard on Sunday! I keep thanking God for all of my wonderful friends that have bleesed me and my family. I keep trying to remind myself that I am going to see them again. It's not like I am never going to go back to Joplin. I am going to make a scrapbook for Virginia with all of her friends in it so that she won't forget them. I am excited to get it started for her!

Randomness

Here are some pics of V. She fussed until I put her in the laundry basket with some of her stuffed animals. She stayed in it for quite a while.

Had moving sale #1 and was very happy with the outcome. I didn't sell any of the record players but came close twice. I did sell quite a bit of clothes but I have so many that you can't even tell. I am happy that I made the money that I wanted to make, I actually went over by 2.25!! Pretty close!

V spent the night with my family Friday and just came home an hour ago. I could tell she had a blast. When she came home she wasn't excited to see me which is fine because I know she had fun and didn't miss me.

the packing begins

I really do not enjoy packing! But then again, who does? I am thankful that I have 2 weeks to pack though. I am taking it one room at a time and slowly packing the items we just don't need for the next two weeks.
I have already had to start saying goodbye to friends. Tuesday I had to say goodbye to Cathy Jo. It made me cry.
I am really nervous about flying by myself with V. Our fist flight is almost 3 hours and the second is 1 1/2 hours. I am praying that she does great. I don't want to be the lady with the screaming kid on a plane!

WALKING!!

Virginia is offically walking now. She still prefers crawling but she will walk as long as no one is asker her to and if no one is watching. She started walking on Wednesday. It was crazy. She walked about 8 feet non stop and has been going since. I am so proud of her!!
I have our vegetable garden ready to be planted. I had some errands to run yesterday morning and when I got home I had noticed that our garden had been tilled. Our crazy, nice, thoughtful 76 year old neighbor Bill had tilled it for me. I tilled it a second time and raked it about 5 times and picked out all the weeds and grass tufts and rocks. I found a neat button and a marble, that was pretty exciting. I spent 4 hours in the garden and it looks amazing if I say so myself. It is about 12'x15' so I am going to be having my hands full the next few months. I am excited to have fresh produce in our back yard!
I almost forgot...had to take V to the ER AGAIN! Those ears of hers! She has another double ear infection with sinus drainage. She is finally starting to look better. Her nose is starting to clear up and her cough is sounding better. She should be 100% in another 3 days.

sign language

Virginia is really started to communicate now. It is exciting! She will sign to tell me when she wants milk, eat, when she wants me to sing the ABC's, more and all done. It is too cute. Tonight we were sitting getting ready to sing her bedtime songs and I asked her what song she wanted. Virginia looks at me and starts moving her fingers around like I do when I sign the ABC's, of course meaning she wanted me to sing the ABC's. As I am singing to her she keeps kissing me everyother letter. I was laughing so hard but had to remember to kiss her back when she threw her face at me so that my teeth didn't hit her and make her cry. It was so funny! I kept laughing and then she started laughing...we had to sing a few more songs to calm us both back down.
We went to the House of Bounce today and V had a lot of fun. The last time we went she was too small to really play on the equipment. Today she went down the slides a couple of times and played in a big inflatable ring kicking a big ball around. She was laughing a ton!! She has been laughing a lot lately and I LOVE IT!!

mwah

"mwah" that is the sound that I hear all day long! Virginia loves to blow kisses to everyone and everything! When she blows kisses she makes the noise to go with it. It is so cute! She also picked up "uh-oh". Her one other new thing is that she is signing for "more" now that she says "more", It is odd that it seems like she is picking up her sign language after she can say the words.
V spent the night with her Nana Saturday night. Usually when that happens she comes back the next day in an awful mood because she hadn't slept much that day or the night before. She was so tired last night after she got home that she only ate two spoonfuls of food and then wanted to go to bed. She even slept in late and took a FOREVER long morning nap.
Yesterday I helped Ruth at her duathalon. There were 80 people there, which is amazing!! There were people there as young as 15 and as old as 68. It was incredible to watch them. I also got to ride a motorcycle for the first time with this. I was in charge of being the bike referee so I got to be intimidating for the first time in my life. I could tell that some of those bikers were scared silly when they saw me come up on them to make sure that they weren't breaking any of the rules. The dualthalon consisted of running 2 miles, biking 10 miles, running 2 miles and the fastest was 54 minutes...they BOOKED IT!!! The first two miles were run in 14 minutes! It jazzed me to go running again now that my ankle feels healed.
V is taking more steps. She averages around 3-4 now. She will just get up and take off, finally! Its almost like she walks and then realizes that she is walking so she plops down to crawl, it can be very frustrating!

Thai idol

Yesterday John suprised me by taking me out to my favorite resturant for lunch, Magic Noodle a Thai resturant. It happned that we were the only customers and so the entire staff loved all over V. It was adorable! They ended up picking her up and showing her off to everyone that worked there, including grandma back in the kitchen. Every few seconds grandma would appear from the kitchen with a new toy for V to play with. We ended up leaving the resturant with a blue hippo that they gave her. Of course V loved it there because she was the center of attention.

I have come to the conclusion that Baby Einstein is like a hard drug for babies. Virginia gets hooked on it and looses all knowledge of her surroundings when she is watching it. As soon as she sees the catipiller come on in the beginning she is gone! John took some pictures of her sitting in her chair with her "dea-dea" watching her show. She looked so big sitting there on her own.

the mess

I have been trying to teach Virginia not to mess with the DVD's on the shelf in the dining room. Does she listen to me? NO! I am tired to smacking her hand all of the time so I have decided that when I tell her now 3 or 4 times and she is not listening that I will put her in her room and shut her door for 5 minutes. I did this the other day and the pictures that follow are what happened in a short 5 minute time span. The funny thing was that she didn't do it because she was upset, she just likes to pull EVERYTHING out of her drawers and off of her bookshelf.

You know you are in SWMO when...

You have your daughter wear shorts on Thursday and then it snows on Saturday and you have to bundle up your child to go to church on Sunday...crazy!!!
Virginia has 7 teeth now. Four on top and three on bottom. Your top teeth never caused her any trouble but her bottom teeth seem to hurt her a lot! Her seventh tooth is on the bottom and she screams and cries and has a runny nose from it. Today in church she was uncontrolable. I had to get up with her at the end because she was so loud. I know that it hurts her a lot and I feel so bad.

life goes on

Virginia is still not walking. I try to coax her but it just dosen't work. She just drops down and crawls. I know that she will do it when she wants but I am just getting anxious.
Picture 1: V in her Valentines dress from her Oma and Opa
Picture 2: V's Valentines gift from her Oma and Opa (she was REALLY excited!)
Picture 3: rocking out in the kitchen
Picture 4: Superbowl Sunday! We were wishful thinking with the Chiefs cheerleading outfit.

a walk to the post office

It is such a wonderful day out today! I decided to take V for a walk. We enjoyed it so much!!! We went to the post office and the pet shop. V loved to look at the birds and pet the rabbit and hamsters. The had HUGE fish that she gawked at.
Tomorrow Virginia and I are going to take Gavin to the park that is down the street from us. The two of them are going to have a TON of fun!! I can't wait to see that.

..when you are having fun!

Time has flown by! I can't believe that Virginia is one! Just one year ago today V was released from the hospital. I remember being so scared that I was going to have to remember to feed her at certain intervals and was going to put her in her own bed. It was so nice having nurses doing those things for me! I remember sleeping on a VERY uncomfortable pull-out recliner in the NICU the night before. I don't think I slept at all that night!
Now I look at Virginia and see her walking around furniture, giggling, having a temper, having favorite toys and books and many many other personality traits. It is amazing! I am very proud of myself that I have not cried just thinking about it.

baby stepping to the door, baby stepping out the door...

I laughed outloud as I was typing the title for this post. If you don't know, that is Bill Murray in What About Bob. Anyway, it relates to what I am writing about because V is starting to finally take an interest in walking. She will hold onto my hands as I lead her around the house. It makes me happy! I know that she is still ahead of the learning curve but I was afraid she wouldn't start until after she was a year. She is very proud of herself as she is taking her "baby steps".

Virginia has a hatred for all things stacked. I love to play with her wooden blocks and stack them high until they fall (what can I say, I like to play with toys!). As soon as Virginia has spotted what I am doing she make a bee line straight for me and knocks down my blocks. It would be different if she were laughing and found this amuseing but she dosen't. Virginia knocks down my blocks with a straight face, neither happy or angry, and then goes about doing what she was doing before. It is very odd. I have now started a game with myself to see how high I can stack her blocks, cherrios, anything, before she spots me and knocks them down.

V has figured out that she has four teeth now and that means she can bite her spoon when she is eating. I was trying to feed her dinner last night when she would all of a sudden bite down on the spoon and not let me have it. She found this hilarious (I did too)!

Only 19 days until she turns ONE!!!
